About Simukayi Mutasa.
Dr. Simukayi "Simi" Mutasa is a board-certified musculoskeletal radiologist. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Texas at Austin in 2009, where he also pursued additional studies in Petroleum Engineering. Dr. Mutasa obtained his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 2015, graduating with Alpha Omega Alpha honors. He completed his internship in Internal Medicine at the same institution from 2015 to 2016.
Dr. Mutasa's postgraduate training includes a residency in Radiology at New York-Presbyterian Hospital: Columbia University Medical Center (2016–2020), where he served as Chief Resident from 2017 to 2019. He further specialized by completing a fellowship in Musculoskeletal Radiology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital from 2020 to 2021.
Throughout his career, Dr. Mutasa has held positions with several esteemed institutions. He currently practices as a radiologist focusing on musculoskeletal imaging. His previous roles include serving as a team lead for AI-driven diagnostic projects at UC Irvine's Center for AI in Diagnostic Medicine.
Dr. Mutasa has been recognized with numerous honors and awards, including the NIH StARR R38 Research Grant (2019–2020), the Columbia Herbert Irving Cancer Center Velocity Grant (2019–2020), and the Society of Imaging Informatics Best Scientific Paper Award (2018). He has also been acknowledged for his excellence in teaching with the Thayer Award for Excellence in Teaching (2016) and was named a finalist for Intern of the Year in 2016.
